Finishing Up

Everything is finally coming to an end! It feels so good to be finished with my concentration, breadth, and quality section and to have all of that work finally sent in. All my work can be viewed at http://lhs.loswego.k12.or.us/z-mcbrides/AP/breadthconcentration0708.htm.

Sadly, we only have a few more days of art left but looking back on the whole year, it has been a great learning experience for me. I have learned a lot about myself as an artist.

I had been working on pieces that had the theme of human emotion for so long that it is now kind of tricky figuring out what I should work on next. I'm going to look at other artists and try to get ideas but I want to keep creating a lot over the summer!

New Projects

So I am really looking forward to the project we will we be working on for the rest of the year! It's a really cool opportunity that we have been given and I am excited to start. The famous piece of art I am thinking about recreating is Toulouse Lautrec's "Le Chat Noir". I chose this piece because I love its simplicity and the bold colors.

mime

So this last week I was looking through all my artwork that I have done this year and came upon a bunch of work I had done from the life drawings. I found this picture I drew of one of the mime's who came to our school. I feel like the different stages of his head turning and the different textures and lines portray confusion of the man in the piece. So, I have decided to use this drawing as one of my pieces in my concentration. Because a lot of my pieces portray human emotion through facial expressions, I thought this one would be cool to add because it doesn't use facial expressions to show his emotions.

two more done...

I finished two more pieces over the weekend. The bottom one is a pencil drawing of my sister and the top one is a half photo transfer/half sketch of my great grandpa. Over the last week I have been working on finishing a bunch of pieces so that I will more than 12 done so I can choose my 12 favorites to go into my portfolio. I am almost done, but these are the latest two that I have finished. I think I definitly want to include these in my concentration.

The encaustic piece that we worked on in class and a photo transfer/drawing of an old man are my next two concentration pieces. They feel finised to me but if anyone has any ideas feel free to let me know!

I have been creating a lot of backgrounds lately, not necessarily for my concentration, but I always seem to reach a point where I just get stuck. Take the piece above for example. I have started a background but I have no idea what to do from here. I get nervous to put anything too bold or too heavy overtop because I am afraid it won't look right against the light watery feel the background has. And I am not sure if what I put overtop of this background should be shapes or lines or drawings from observation. Also, I am not sure if what I put overtop of the background should be done with paint or pen or charcoal etc. I have about five started backgrounds like this up in my room and I really want to do something cool with them so if anyone has some suggestions I would greatly appreciate it!
